John Beamish
Oil on canvas
"Brisbane"

|
To Art lovers, wherever you may be; Hello, my name is John Beamish and this is the shortest of short bio’s to help fill in the blanks regarding my pursuits into the Fine Arts. In my possession are pencil drawings of city-scapes and rural settings dating from at least 1971. Instead of going to art school like so many of my friends, I found myself working as an apprentice sign-writer, but drifted away from the trade as it became more and more digital. In the late seventies and early eighties I worked as a graphic artist in Sydney, Canberra, Wollongong, Gold Coast, where I familiarized myself with some of the disciplines relating to the print industry, (Off-set printing and four colour separation, sublistatic prints), all the time trying to improve my photographic skills. Following this period I tried my hand at Fashion design and printing using screen-printing techniques direct to the fabric. I then sub-contracted to a Gold Coast Art studio working on commercial projects for developers and Interior decorators. This expanded my exposure to other art techniques such as Sand blasted glass and Acid Etching metals, air-brush and spray gun work, which were incorporated in Hotel fit-outs, Entertainment venues and Building interiors, Luxury homes etc. In the nineties I purchased a signwriting business in Northern NSW and lived and painted there until I met my wife and we moved to Brisbane, where we married just before the new millennium. I have painted in oils, acrylics, gouache, lacquer finishes and watercolors, and as I rapidly approach mu sixth decade I still return to oils on canvas as my favored medium. These days I have more time to concentrate on my painting and am hopeful of continuing to work for many years to come and have had most of my works purchased in this city. Other paintings hang in Sydney, Perth and Mumbai and London. Thank You for taking the time to appreciate my works and may it bring you and yours a little happiness each day. John Beamish
